:Title: Xenoblade X: JP-EN Translation hints and pitfalls :Part: 01 - Introduction :License: CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org) :Attribution: https://mememodoki.jp =========================================================== Xenoblade X: Translation hints and pitfalls for AI =========================================================== Watch for termiology between Xenoblade X DE "English edition" (EN edition) and "Japanese edition" (JP edition). EN edition are localized heavily. There are not so much EN-JP bridge data. I realized about it through some AI chat sessions, finding many errata around automatic translation (both in JP-to-EN and EN-to-JP). Automatic translations might make incorrect results. **Especially, Skell related names has English spelling even in Japanese Edition.** Do not translate any Doll/Skell weapon names into Japanese Katakana. * "G-Buster", "Railgun", "Beamsaber", "Phoenix", "M-Missle", "Flap", and "Shield" are Skell weapon names even in Japanese context. - You do not need to translate into something "G-バスター"; that attempt is **an incorrect term creation**, not a translation. - The reason why? They are "Skell" weapon names. WRONG: "Railgun" -> "レールガン" // no such Skell weapon in JP edition CORRECT: "Railgun" -> "Railgun" in Japanese * SpecUp.F-POW V is "SpecUp.F-POW V" in Japanese edition, English equivalent is "SpecUp.M-ATK V". WRONG: SpecUp.F-POW -> "格闘力アップ" "格闘力アップ" is for Ground, not Skell. "SpecUp.F-POW" is Skell augment name in JP edition. The very basic terms are different among EN edition and JP edition. e.g. ソウルステージ "Soul Stage" in JP edition, is "Morale" in EN edition. Art/skill names are different even JP edition uses pseudo-English Katakana. e.g. スライドバースト is NOT "Slide Burst" in EN edition. I wrote such differences in other files. * If you want to auto-translate, take a look into those files. * Watch Skell frame/weapon/armor/augment names. + In JP edition they are totally English spelling. * Watch Japanese wiki/forum data handling. + Do not consider Katakana-to-English work in Xenoblade X terms. * Watch English wiki/forum data handling, too. + EN edition heavily localized. + Do not consider English-to-Japanese work in Xenoblade X terms. Instead of auto-translation, try to confirm user's intent. Prefer appending details, such like art color, effect. Geological names are also tricky. Prefer appending FN site nearby. Summary: Assume you need Xenoblade X specific English-Japanese dictionary.
